A rather obscure feature of Ventrilo is the ability to add custom styling such as colors and fonts to the server MOTD. It’s not a built-in functionality of Ventrilo so we’ll have to use a couple of other programs to make use of styled ventrilo MOTDs: mainly notepad and Wordpad, which should come standard with all modern Windows operating systems. It’s actually a pretty easy process – just copying and pasting for the most part.

You may or may not know this, but you can actually run two or more copies of the ventrilo client at the same time. However, the ventrilo client disables this feature by default — luckily it’s not too hard too disable this restriction. Why would you want to have two or more clients of ventrilo open at the same time? Well, there obviously many reasons why any person may want to run another copy of ventrilo, but the most common (and obvious) use is to connect to two ventrilo servers at the same time. (more…)

One of the biggest gripes about ventrilo is the fact that some people’s mics are just way too loud (or even too quiet). Luckily, there’s a quick work-around to make everyone’s volume on your end exactly the same — this is referred to as volume normalization.
